Going out to din din...

Lets real quick discuss going out to eat and how you should treat your server. I want to start off by making this statement, unless your server cusses you out and disrespects grandma at the table... you are to tip 18-20%. I will say that again... 18-20%, no question! It is not your servers fault the cook who was too stoned in the kitchen from his 5 minute break over cooked your ribeye. Half the time people order it over cooked anyway.

There is no such thing as Well-Done and juicy. I repeat. No such of a thing!

If the restaurant manager buys your dinner you are to tip the server any way.

When the server comes to your table and ask if there is anything you may need, please tell him or her every thing at once. They most likely have four other tables they need to check on and running them back and forth because you forgot to ask for butter, then steak sauce, then ranch, and oh um sir one more thing... extra napkins. THAT IS COMPLETELY BEING AN ASS! Take a freaking moment and gather your thoughts and let them know every thing you may need at one time so the server can give you adequate and timely service!

It is not mer-lot.. its merlot, mer-ˈ. Or, SAL-MON. Salmon (sa-mən). And no..a fee-let is not fish ( thanks Ronald McDonald). Its a Filet (fi-ˈlā), : a thick slice of beef cut from the narrow end of a beef tenderloin

Bringing more than 8 people to dinner I feel is out of line. I once witnessed a party of 25 people come into a steakhouse I worked at while I was in college and they ran this poor college co-ed trying to make ends meat into the ground. Then insisted she took the 18% gratuity off because it took to long for their steaks to come out. Yeah, it took a while.. their are 25 of you asking for well done steaks. She wound up with a $15 dollar tip. Sad, I know. A party of 25 is a freaking party, which means.. have it at your damn house. Or, how about this novel idea. Take your cheap ass to the Lowe's and buy a grill and cook it up. It's less expensive and more healthy to cook at home.

Did I mention to tip 18-20%.. if you are not a math whiz you can go online and print out a tip chart.
Here is one...

Most of all, be patient. If your server is running around like coked up Indian then that means they are slammed. You came out to eat to have a good time, relax, not to cook or clean up. So chill and enjoy your time out. Show respect, that server is busting their A for you and the other people that are demanding 100% of his or her attention.

I think when I have a child I will insist they serve while in college. You earn so much respect for serving and how hard it can be. You also learn how ridiculous people can be.

  1. Right on. I was a server/bartender for many years and always tip 20-25%. If they are good, I will tip more.

I hate going out to eat with rude people who don't pay attention to the server and think they servers are there to literally wait on them or "whatever" they want. You still need to be polite.
